The annual Winter Court has just concluded. After your lord returns home he calls you into his audience chamber. The darkness of the night seeps into the room and casts an ominous shadow over your lord's face. His imposing countenance is the feature of many seasons spent on the water and abroad. He is Kasuga Kaito and he is the Governor of Distant Tortoise City.

He speaks with the firm voice that you have become accustomed to during the time that you have served him. From his seat of cushions on the dais he looks down.
"My Daughter will be ready to attend Winter Court the coming season. Her star will shine so brightly because of her victories won during the Topaz Championship. She will complete her Gempuku and have a great marriage. Her happiness will be like that of tales… She will have more that I could have dreamed of." He trails off slowly. You can see the eyes of Kasuga Kaito look far off.

You slowly raise your eyes to meet his gaze. His steely confidence radiates from very air around him. The stillness of the night pierced, if only for the space single breath, by the pure intensity of the Fire radiating from Kasuga Kaito. You are surprised the kami do not manifest now in this very room and consume it. There is only one thing to say in the stillness of the room, so it comes full circle to where you were so many years ago.
"It will be as you wish my lord. I shall gather the finest teachers. I will scour the lands, seeking only the best possible, separating the stalk from the rice. I will gather the most insightful and promising samurai. I shall take them into your service and use whatever means necessary to secure their cooperation."

“Hiro you have pleased me greatly. Come let us have a game of shogi.” Kasuga Kaito beckons you to come over.

Characters will begin the task of preparing the heir of Kasuga Kaito. To become a samurai ko and take her place as a leader of the Kasuga family. Ideally most or all characters will share a family and work toward a common goal. That being said there are many ways to serve one's lord and one's self at the same time.

Season 2

A red sun rises over a silent rice paddy. Standing beside the tall blowing stalks of rice a Bushi reflects silently. His brow is dripping with the sweat of his pre-dawn workout. As the drops hit the dirt of the path used to tend the rice paddies that he had taken to using as practice space. The peasants of this place were never in the fields before daybreak it was the perfect place for solitude.

“Inari has indeed blessed this place.” The samurai mused.

He reflected on the months that had passed. Recalling the state of the rice paddy when he arrived he was struck by how vibrant and full was the growth of the rice. He was no master of sums and would never lower himself to mercantile trade, none the less he was aware of the abundance present.

“There will be much after taxes are paid this season.”

It was in the silence of the Kata that the master had always sought his insight. As it was today, his continued solitary practice had revealed to him an abundance that he would have otherwise been ignorant of. He smiled as he turned to go down the road toward his most recent lodgings. At least these walls were known, and on civilized lands.
